You’re so vain…I bet you think this post is about you, don’t you?
Ha! Well it is! I was thinking a lot about beauty and body image this week, and even though we are (mostly) great and empowered feminists, I know there are things we are vain about.
I, for one, and am very vain about my skin. It is the one part of me I love all the time and I will spend lots of money on for products and such. I have great skin! And when I do get a pimple–watch out–I am quite the little hellion on those days.
So what about you guys. What are you vain about?

This question was really hard for me at first because everything that came to mind made me go, “Eww!”
Hmm…I guess it would be my tattoo (Chinese for “peace”). I love it. But it’s on my back so most people still don’t know I have it because I haven’t been able to wear tank tops around much. But when I do get to wear tank tops, I like to show it off.
I also like my eyes, with the proper make up (otherwise they look washed out). I think they tell the most about my personality, so I pay special attention to making them look decent.

Red Queen
My hair. My super shiny, thick naturally black hair.
And now that I have 5 or 6 grey hairs, it’s freaking me out a bit

my body, mostly when i’m doing yoga. i LOVE to watch my body do all the very cool poses that lots of people in the class can’t. i make sure to get there early and put my mat right near the mirror so i can watch myself do the poses… yes, i’m vain… you wanted me to be honest though
haha

Can one be vain about their intellect? I’m not sure if it counts, because I don’t flaunt it, or mention it to others, but I’m privately pleased by it.
Other than that, nothing. I don’t brag about my looks, or any such thing.
Though, I admit agreeing with Red Queen there. Now that I’m starting to get a few greys at my temples, well, that doesn’t please me one bit.

I think you can be vain about your intellect. And for the most part, I think vanity *is* a private thing. Like–something you are proud of in your own head.

I love my dreadlocks which reach the middle of my back and I love my long fingers. I am constantly playing with my hair and swinging it back and forth.

I’ve got great calves.
I was watching Sex and the City tonight and there’s an episode where a guy at the gym thinks Miranda is sexy, they go out on a date and he talks most of the time (they mention it in the dialogue), then on the second date she’s talking about how she loves her life and herself and suddenly he’s not interested because he thinks she’s stuck up. Doesn’t talk on the first date and thinks she’s sexy, talks about herself on the second and suddenly she’s full of herself. Hypocritical? Yes.

If I spent any money on my hair (thanks, student hairdressers!), that would be it. At the moment it’s bright orange and spiky. I’m thinking of shaving a circuitboard design down the sides and dying the resulting mohawk spikes rainbow. (Thank-you student hairdressers!)

RENEE–
I am so jealous of your dreadlocks it’s not even funny. I had them for two years, but I had to cut them off to, you know, get a job. It was LAME. I loved them so.

Yeah, I’ve wanted dreadlocks for a while now. I am jealous, too.
