I do not expect all of my readers to be aware of this since it is a UGA-centered issue, but I have to talk about it. This school year, the front page of our news paper has been splashed with tons of sexual harassment scandals from the university turning a blind eye to the allegations to them letting a repeat offender for over 20 years STILL TEACH.
So, who does our school pick for our commencement speaker? Who? Oh, only Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. You know, who was accused of sexually harassing Anita Hill.
Ahhh…sometimes I wonder about my school. Very very much. You know, its like they are telling all of us students that “hey, doesn’t matter if you do inappropriate things! You can still get away with them, and lo and behold, be a Supreme Court Justice! Awesome!” Not to mention telling us ladies “we don’t take your issues the least bit seriously.”
And then there were three letters to the editor today in the Red and Black, whining about the evil women’s studies department trying to reslander an upstanding man like Justice Thomas. Well, fuck all you guys. I know your biggest fear in the world is some rogue crazy woman is going to accuse your innoccent soul of sexually harrassing, or, the worst of the worst RAPING her when, gee golly, all you were doing was telling her how nice she looked with a swfit pat on the ass or, you know, sticking it in when she was drunk. She was a slut anyway so she deserved it, right? Well, news flash, boys. IF YOU DON’T VIOLATE A WOMAN’S PERSONHOOD, SHE WON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO ACCUSE YOU OF. And, consequently, if you boys (and some girls) start believing women when they come forward (instead of calling them dirty lying sluts), more rapists will be prosecuted and rape rates just might, might MIGHT decrease.
Finally, it doesn’t matter if Justice Thomas wasn’t convicted. It doesn’t mean he didn’t do it. And, even if he didn’t do it, it makes me sick to livein a world where a woman’s word is a lie until proven truthful.
I will not be clapping after Justice Thomas’s speech at graduation.

Kacie, I just read your comments on the red and black message boards. (I shouldn’t be wasting my time reading them, but as Molly Moreland wrote on my facebook wall today, “it’s like a car wreck — I can’t look away!”)
THANKS for speaking out as a student… I’m sorry I didn’t have the chance to have you in class! best of luck!
